Live from Twitter HQ: 2017 Data Privacy Day Highlights
Jan 27, 2017 1:36pm
Jan. 28, 2017, is the 10th annual Data Privacy Day, an international effort to create awareness about the importance of privacy and protecting personal information. Each year, the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) has marked Data Privacy Day with an event, but this year we took things virtual by hosting an exciting series of cutting-edge discussions live from Twitter’s headquarters in San Francisco on Thursday, Jan. 26.
The day’s conversations focused on the latest privacy issues for both consumers and businesses. Not-to-be-missed segments included:
Twitter Head of Global Policy Outreach Patricia Cartes introducing the event
Future of Privacy Forum CEO Jules Polonetsky discussing privacy and connected toys
Throughout the day, NCSA, our sponsors, partners and audience members around the world posted about the event on social media using the hashtag #PrivacyAware. On Jan. 26 alone, more than 1,000 Twitter users tweeted #PrivacyAware and the hashtag had a potential reach of nearly 8 million.
Here’s a sample of preliminary media coverage on the event and Data Privacy Day:
This year’s Data Privacy Day efforts have been amplified by more than 630 organizational and individual Champions, who signed up to take action in support of the day’s theme – Respecting Privacy, Safeguarding Data and Enabling Trust. And there’s still 24 hours to sign up as a Champion – as long as you do it by Jan. 28! Register on behalf of yourself or your organization here. It’s easy and free, and you’ll receive a toolkit of privacy awareness materials to use at home, at work and in the community.
