Baylor University uses the help of its students to educate others about cyber security. Baylor gets significant backing from more than 65 undergrads majoring in management information systems and graduate and master's students majoring in security information. During National Cyber Security Awareness Month, Baylor directs class projects related to the campaign and presenting lectures from visiting cyber security experts.

Boston College hosts a free annual "Security Camp" for university staff in the northeastern U.S., and the overwhelming majority of its staff have attended a security training course. Along with a security table at the annual October Health Fair focused on "keeping your computer healthy," BC's Information Technology Services runs a variety of student cybersecurity awareness activities each year during NCSAM.

Dartmouth College

Dartmouth College is actively engaged in cyber security research and education.  In 2000, Dartmouth established the Institute for Security, Technology, and Society (ISTS), which produces cutting-edge research and promotes education and outreach cyber security related areas.   ISTS co-hosts an annual conference on information security with the College’s Computing Services department and a regular on-campus speaker’s series.  In addition, Dartmouth manages the Institute for Information Infrastructure Protection (I3P) – a consortium of leading universities, national laboratories and nonprofit institutions dedicated to strengthening the cyber infrastructure of the United States.
This year Dartmouth hosted several events associated with NCSAM including a guest lecture by Andrew Cutts, Director of Cyber Security Policy at DHS and a panel discussion on cyber ethics co-hosted with the I3P.

Indiana University takes advantage of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month to extend special outreach efforts encouraging faculty and staff to ensure their workstations and university data are securely maintained, and reminding students to safely use Internet resources and their personal computers. Indiana regularly provides education and training, backed by its strong involvement in EDUCAUSE.

Purdue University has participateds for the past four National Cyber Security Awareness Months. Each year, Purdue offers one event per week on the topic of cyber security on campus. This year it produced short, educational videos and put out a series of webcasts that run October through December.

Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) begins educating college freshmen about cyber security as soon as they arrive on campus. RIT is in its fourth year offering "Digital Self Defense" classes to all incoming freshmen. A focus this year on social networking sites hit home for many students. RIT also offers an online cyber security class for faculty and staff.

The University of Virginia (UVa) uses a personal approach to promote cyber security awareness on campus. Information Security Analyst, Karen McDowell, hired a seamstress to create a fish costume, which she wears around campus during October to educate faculty, staff, and students about the threat of phishing. UVa information security staff also hold security awareness presentations year-round to bring awareness to the University community. In addition, UVa hosts a website “Who’s Watching Charlottesville” a partnership UVa has with local government and a credit union to build awareness among the entire Charlottesville area community on Internet threats and safeguards.
