WASHINGTON, D.C., February 3, 2020 – The National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), the nation’s leading nonprofit promoting cybersecurity and privacy awareness and education, is proud to join RSA Conference 2020 (RSAC) once again as an association sponsor. RSA Conference is the world’s largest global security conference, providing an unmatched platform for the industry to connect with colleagues about the latest technology and trends that influence and protect our interconnected world.
Inspired by this year’s RSAC theme, “The Human Element,” NCSA is focused on changing human behavior when it comes to online safety. On February 26, NCSA will gather a panel of industry experts at RSAC to talk about “Improving Security Awareness with Psychology, Advertising & Analytics.” According to the 2017 Lastpass survey, 91% of users understand the consequences of reusing passwords, yet 61% use the same or similar password repeatedly. This panel will explore why users’ understanding of cybersecurity concepts often differs from their online behavior. Experts will share their innovative approaches to cybersecurity awareness training to emphasize their collaborative, interactive, entertaining and data-driven approaches to designing employee cybersecurity awareness programs. Panelists will highlight case studies from their own experiences and share best practices and lessons learned.
NCSA’s Director of Education and Strategic Initiatives, Daniel Eliot, will moderate this session with Lisa Plaggemier, Chief Strategy Officer at MediaPRO; Masha Sedova, Co-founder & Chief Product Officer at Elevate Security; and Perry Carpenter, Chief Evangelist and Strategy Officer for KnowBe4.
Lisa Plaggemier will share her expertise on leveraging insights from the fields of marketing and advertising to create engaging information security awareness programs that lead to employee behavior change.
Masha Sedova will shed light on tactics for measuring the full scope of user behaviors and how to take a personalized, data-driven approach to positively influence employee behaviors to reduce risk and improve resilience. As investments in new approaches to security awareness increase and new resources and tactics are developed, Sedova will help the audience understand what is working and what is not.
Perry Carpenter will share his perspectives on effecting secure behaviors by sharing his insights from the fields of neuroscience, storytelling and marketing.
“Changing human behavior is not easy.” said Kelvin Coleman, NCSA’s executive director. “However, there are lessons learned from fields such as psychology, marketing and big data that have the potential to truly disrupt current common approaches to cybersecurity awareness. Current best practices for employee cybersecurity awareness programs go beyond PowerPoint and include synergistic, creative, and data-based methods that can actually change behavior.”
NCSA is the nation’s leading nonprofit, public-private partnership promoting cybersecurity and privacy education and awareness. NCSA works with a broad array of stakeholders in government, industry and civil society. NCSA’s primary partners are the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and NCSA’s Board of Directors, which includes representatives from ADP; American Express; Bank of America; Cofense; Comcast Corporation; Eli Lilly and Company; ESET North America; Facebook; Google; Intel Corporation; Lenovo; LogMeIn, Inc., Marriott International; Mastercard; Microsoft Corporation; Mimecast; NortonLifeLock; Proofpoint; Raytheon; Trend Micro, Inc.; Uber: U.S. Bank; Visa and Wells Fargo.
