October has traditionally been National CyberSecurity Awareness Month in the United States, but many countries have followed suit with their own national programs taking place within their own region.
October has traditionally been National CyberSecurity Awareness Month in the United States, but many countries have followed suit with their own national programs taking place within their own region.
Sure, we can continue to look at these as individual, separate, national events, but we aren't doing the effort justice. In fact, the NCSA this year really wanted to open things up internationally and has helped to organize this Around The World conversation. We had many regions and countries to choose from—but we decided to mix it up across 3 different continents representing way more cultures and languages than that: Bangladesh, Canada, And Central/South America.
We have learned from this conversation that, while there is a long way to go, significant steps have been made and no one has to walk alone. Collaboration and coordinated efforts amongst different countries, specific regions, and globally gives us hope that—even as the month's activities are over—there is momentum and plenty of initiatives and innovation driving us towards a year-long effort to produce awareness around the world at all levels.
Sure, there are cultural differences, diverse budgets, and some initiatives and organizations are more well established than others. Still, we are in this together, and together we will succeed in creating awareness for awareness. Cybersecurity awareness, in this case, of course.
