On Thursday, January 19, 2023, wireless company T-Mobile announced that bad actors had breached their systems in November of 2022 and gained access to the personal information of 37 million current T-Mobile customers.

Watch out for unusual activity on any of your accounts, including T-Mobile, you bank account, and your credit card accounts.

If you are a current or former T-Mobile customer, we recommend you take the following actions:

  • T-Mobile reported in a regulatory filing that the cybercriminal stole data including names, addresses, emails, phone numbers, dates of birth, T-Mobile account numbers, and some other T-Mobile account information. The company said the hacker did not steal Social Security numbers, credit card information, passwords, PINs, or customer financial information.

  • Enable multi-factor authentication on any account that permits it.

  • Look out for phishing emails, texts, or other messages -- hackers might use the captured data to try to contact customers and trick them into clicking a malicious link or downloading malware.

  • Look out for suspicious calls (called "vishing" – voice phishing) where someone impersonates T-Mobile. T-Mobile will never call, text, or email you asking for your password or login information.
